The backyard apple that was developed by Mrs Maria Ann (Granny) Smith in her backyard in Sydney. The white flesh is surrounded by a deep green coloured skin. Granny Smiths are a crispy apple that has a bitter and sweet flavour which makes them an excellent choice for Apple Pies, Apple Juice or Apple Sauce.
Available all year round. Peak season in late winter and spring.
For optimum keeping, it is recommended that you store apples in a dry cool area which is away from direct sunlight. Alternatively, they can be stored in the dry and crisp area of the refrigerator.
