Generally small to medium in size, these mushrooms have caps averaging 5-10 centimetres in diameter which are attached to thin stems. The caps range in colour from light to dark brown and have a wide umbrella shape. Inside the cream coloured flesh is firm and spongy. When cooked, Shitake Mushrooms release a garlic pine aroma and have a savoury, smokey and earthy flavour.
Available all year round.
For optimum keeping, store Shitake Mushrooms in a paper bag and place them in the dry crisp area of the refrigerator.
