They are usually round in shape but can sometimes be slightly elongated with a firm, netted, cream or buff rind depending on the season. Different rockmelon varieties have grooves or sutures running from end to end. The flesh is a bright orange to peach coloured which is moist with a sweet fragrance and seeds centred in the fruit.
Available all year round. Peak season is summer.
For optimum keeping, store rockmelons at room temperature. Once cut, they need to be wrapped in plastic and placed in the dry crisp area of the refrigerator.
