Belonging to the same family as Turnips and Cabbages, Swedes are hybrid between the two developed in Sweden. Swedes have a delicate sweet flavour and are a very versatile vegetable that is mainly used in soups. The top half of the swede is purple and the bottom half is a creamy white. They are available all year round but peak in winter after a frost. Choose smaller looking swedes around the size of a tennis ball when selecting. These swedes have more flavour.
